there are a lot of very nice people here on EP and throughout the world.  but the needy in life, no matter if you are talking about money or sex or comfort/security of any kind, make up a truly huge portion of the population overall.  and the fact is that, while some smaller percentage of these people have difficulties or shortcomings that are difficult or impossible to overcome, the big percentage is made up of people who really just don't work at things very hard, instead allowing themselves to settle for getting by and hoping that somehow they'll wake up in better circumstances.

of course, there is so much compassion out here, too, and while that is a good thing, it often goes too far, making excuses for many and now so often calling for all of us to not only be understanding but also to step in and make life better for everyone in that swamp of ennui and self-absorbtion.  fine, but no one can any longer refuse to recognize that the bottom is falling out and that this swamp is going to become a riptide that carries us all out into very deep water, and only a few with very big boats will survive.

i'm not a harsh person, nor an elitist of any sort.  i am very fortunate and recognize that to the best of my ability.  i give thanks rather than talk of my own success.  i don't deny my success or hide it, but neither do i rest on it.  this is a must for life to proceed for any of us, regardless of our status and bank accounts.  i work for my living and certainly demand what i have coming when i agree to and perform my work.  i stand up for myself.

it's time now.  those who don't get off their asses now and get themselves into some kind of shape to face the world around them will be swept away without being able to make even one stroke to swim against the incoming flood of national debt and the things it brings with it.  it will sweep over all of us, and the resulting riptide will carry everyone who hasn't found and firmly grounded an anchor for survival.  and believe me, those few big boats out there where you'll find youself will all be full already, and they won't be picking up anyone out of mercy and concern.
